Safety tips for dads and baby bottles
There have been a lot of headlines about plastics, especially in baby bottles. PVC has long been a concern because it sometimes contains lead. But recently, new studies show that even bottles made with BPA can cause damage and studies on animals. When the concern newborn baby care for your own baby, you need to better understand how to control the dangers attached to simple baby bottles.
Here are some tips for using baby bottles safely and correctly.
1. Don’t heat breast milk or formula in the microwave or on the stove in a plastic container. The plastic can break down leaching dangerous chemicals into the milk.
2. Throw out plastic bottles with scratches since they can collect bacteria. If you’re using glass bottles, throw them in the recycle bin when you see chips or cracks.
3. Never use plastic bottles with images printed on the inside. Been to many come off when warm milk is added.
4. Ideally, use glass bottles made with tempered glass. If you do use plastic, look for bottles made of polyethylene or poly-propylene (recycling symbols 1, 2, or 5).
Given the concerns, the FDA is currently studying the continued use of plastics in baby bottles, though the Juvenile Products Manufacturers Association still says that plastic bottles made with BPA are safe.
